History of the Erath Fourth of July CelebrationIn 1946, Roy Theriot originated this idea to have various activities in Erath on the Fourth of July. These activities were sponsored by local clubs and organizations. The Profits earned were used to continue the events and additional money was used to support each participating group. Soon after the Fourth of July Celebration originated, Dr. Bernard Lahasky suggested that the proceeds be used to construct a centrally located community center for the youth of Erath.Since then, many local clubs have participated in the success of the celebration. One such organization was Les They Travailleuses, a woman's club. Took complete control of the, festivities between 1972 and 1975. In 1976, the Erath Fourth of July Association was officially incorporated. From this point on it was asked that all organizations and clubs of Erath join the association and send members to the association meetings. Seven organizations were part of the original association. These included the American Legion, Baseball Park, Catholic Daughters, Erath Fire Department, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, and Les Travailleuses. Since then additional groups have joined such as ESA, Theta Eta and Xi Delta Beta Chapters, Jaycees, Erath High School Band, Backers, and the Erath Police Department. As a result of the tremendous efforts of all the organizations and their member's, the Erath City Park began construction in June 1987. Proceeds of this nonprofit organization are still going towards improvement of the facilities.
