Erath 4th of July Celebration
2006 Grand Marshals Ed and Rickey Domingues
The
Erath 4th of July Association is proud to announce the
selection of Ed and Rickey Domingues as the Grand Marshals of the 60th
Annual Erath 4th of July Celebration. The Domingues are
lifelong residents of Erath who have strived throughout their lives
to help make the community a better place.
The
Domingues are both graduates of Erath High School. While a student
at Erath High, Ed was a member of the highly successful Erath High
School Track teams that won nine consecutive state championships
under the direction of Coach Bob Segura. The Domingues continued
their education at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the
University of Louisiana at Lafayette). Ed attended USL on a track
scholarship, and ran track for the USL from 1962-1967. He served as
team captain from 1965-1967. Ed graduated from USL in 1968 with a
degree in Business Administration and Industrial Arts. As a student
at USL, Rickey was active in the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, the
Panhellenic Organization, and Student Government. She also served
as a member of the Southwestern Relays Court for three years. She
graduated from USL in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education
with a minor in Library Science.
Upon
graduation, Ed and Rickey both began their careers in education. Ed
worked as Industrial Arts teacher and track coach at Abbeville High
from 1970 to 1980. Rickey taught for two years in Lafayette Parish
Schools before coming to Erath Elementary School (now Erath Middle)
in 1969. She taught at Erath Middle for 29 ˝ years. She taught in
the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, and served as Librarian for
many years, where she ended her career. While at Erath Middle,
Rickey was very active with the Jr. Beta Club. She served as the
sponsor of the club for 11 years. Under her guidance, nine Erath
Middle students were elected Jr. Beta State President. She also
served as Louisiana State Jr. Beta Sponsor, where she initiated the
State Leadership Conference for Jr. Beta Officers throughout the
state. Because of her efforts on behalf of Jr. Beta, she was
recognized by the State and National Beta Councils.
Ed
began his career in the oil field in 1980, when he became General
Manager of Marcon, where he served until 1985. In 1985, he became
the Operational Manager and Co-Owner of Fluid Dynamics. Ed
purchased Fluid Dynamics and changed the name to Fluid Crane and
Construction. Ed and Rickey expanded their business holding in 2002
when they opened Eddie’s One Stop in Erath. Earlier this year, they
purchased Gulf America Wire Rope, LLC of New Iberia.
Ed
and Rickey have never forgotten their roots, and have been generous
benefactor to the community of Erath and UL Lafayette. Many civic
organizations in Erath and departments at UL Lafayette have
benefited from their generosity. Ed and Rickey also give generously
of their time. They serve as the chairmen of the 12 & Go Social
Club. Rickey is also a member of the Demi Tasse Social Club of
Erath.
Ed currently
serves as co-chairman of the Track Athletic Network at UL
Lafayette. They are both members of the Erath High School Century
Club. Ed and Rickey are also long time members of the Erath 4th
of July Association. They assisted for many years with the
fireworks display and the July 4th Tea. They have been
honored in the past as the Catholic Family of the Year by Our Lady
of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath. Ed was inducted into the Erath
High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993, and was selected as one
of the Top 100 Athletes of Vermilion Parish in 2000. Ed was also
honored to be selected as King Vermilion IV by the Krewe of
Vermilion in 2005. In the aftermath of Hurricane Rita in 2005, Ed
and Rickey generously donated to Erath High, Erath Middle, and
Dozier Elementary to help those schools recover from the destruction
they suffered from Rita’s storm surge.
Ed
and Rickey are the parents of two daughters, Mary LeBlanc and Jeanne
Turner. They are the grandparents of six: T.J., Madeline, Jacob,
and Peter LeBlanc, and Charles Ed and Blaine Turner. Ed is the son
of Corbet and Velma Domingues, and Rickey is the daughter of Johnnie
and Florine Suire. When told that they had been selected as the
2006 Erath 4th of July Celebration Grand Marshals, the
Domingues stated that, “We have continued to try to give back to our
community what has so generously been given to us. We would like to
thank the people of Erath and the surrounding area for their
support.”
