Erath 4th of July Celebration
1993 Grand Marshal Dot Mergist

Mrs. Dot Mergist has been chosen as the 1993 Erath Fourth of July Parade Grand Marshal.

Presently the co-owner of Cajun Caterers, Mergist began working in the Erath High School Cafeteria as a dishwasher in 1968.  By 1977, she had become a certified cafeteria manager, the position she now holds.

A member of the Vermilion Parish School Food Service Association, in which she has been recording secretary, treasurer, and president, Mergist also represents cafeteria workers at Dozier Elementary, Erath Middle, Erath High, and Henry Elementary Schools.

In 1992, Mergist was named the outstanding non-professional worker for Vermilion Parish Schools.  Erath High, Erath Middle, and Dozier Elementary recognized her achievements by celebrating “Dot Mergist Week.”

In 1984, Mergist was selected as Erath Lady Citizen of the Year.  In both 1984 and 1992, the Erath Bobcat Yearbook was dedicated to her.

Mergist also belongs to the Catholic Daughters of America and has taught high school religion at Our Lady of Lourdes.

Mrs. Mergist is married to Adam Benny Mergist and is the mother of six children: David, Loretta, Benny, Roslyn, Lance, and Leah.  She also has 14 grandchildren.

Deeply involved in school and community functions, Mergist spends her leisure time with her children, especially her teenage daughter, and grandchildren.
