1976 Grand Marshal Henry Bernard Jr.

Henry Bernard Jr. was born December 16, 1917 as the oldest son of Henry and Bernadette (Bernard) Bernard in Erath , LA. (Both of his parents were Bernards).

He attended Erath schools and graduated in 1935 from Erath High. In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II. His three brothers all served in WW II, as well. Those included Leo, Lee and Vories.

He also had one sister Antoinette Bernard. Lee.

After the war, Bernard returned to Erath and in 1950 Henry Bernard Jr. was appointed the Principal at Erath High School, replacing Mr. Bert Webb.

He then graduated from  S. L. I. (now U. L.). He also attained a Masterís Degree from L. S. U. During his tenure in Erath, he brought forth improvements to the educational system.

He remained at Erath High until he accepted the Principalship at Abbeville High in the middle 1960′s. He later served the Vermilion Parish School System as the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. He retired in the mid 80ís.

Her married Joan Hollier, a fellow Vermilion Parish educator.

Mr. Bernard passed away on February 28, 2001.
